How to get blocked by our Firewall so that you can't reach your site or get email. Print

Sometimes, when you are trying to upload a lot of files to your site using FTP your access to the web server will be cutoff by the firewall sensing that it is being attacked. Although this may not be true it will block your connection from the IP address that it sees this traffic coming from. This occurs when a badly behaving program like Filezilla opens too many connections at once trying to upload all of your files at once instead of one at a time. When that happens your program is basically preventing anyone else from connecting to or viewing their website because Filezilla used up all the connections on the web server. For more information about this and how to adjust Filezilla to prevent this go to http://www.expiry.com/members/knowledgebase/1171/Filezilla-FTP-keeps-getting-blocked---why.html

You could also be blocked temporarily for 15 minutes if you guessed the wrong password too many times when trying to login to your site or your email accounts. In this scenario the firewall thinks that a hacker is trying to guess your password and will try to slow them down by blocking them for 15 minutes.

If either of these happen to you then go to www.myipaddress.com and start a support ticket with us that includes the IP address that it reports so that we can find it in our firewall and UNLBLOCK it for you so that you can continue to get access to your computer.
